Hey all,
So I watched the film Juno for the first time the other day, and there are a lot of issues in there that really effect Women, young Women in particular obviously, But was wondering what everyone thought of the movie? Just out of curiosity. Also, can anyone recommend any good feminist films that you enjoyed? I am trying to stay busy at night time so that I don't have to dwell on my upcoming departure from the safe land of Canada! Movies: Good.

I just saw Juno this past week, and haven't really sorted my thoughts out on the film. I must have been super cranky while watching it, because I thought Juno herself was pretty obnoxious =P. I'll have to think about feminist movies--the only one that immediately comes to mind is Antonia's Line (which includes a rape scene and some violence, FYI).
Oh, and Norma Rae, about a union worker. And 9-5, which was inspired by real women's stories of sexual harassment at work. Maybe Whale Rider or Bend it Like Beckham as well?

I haven't seen it. I would be interested to hear other people's thoughts on it, because I basically assumed it would be a pro-life type of movie or a movie that reminded me of high school (as if nightmares about it every night are not enough) so I haven't been interested in watching it.

Thanks!
Yeah I thought she was a bit too Jenny hehe, but kinda liked that about her all at the same time if that makes sense? I have definatly seen Whale rider :P As it is pride of New Zealand after all, and pretty typical of home. I will be sure to check out the others you mentioned, and thanks for the warning of the rape scene etc, appreciate that as I still have a really hard time with triggers in films, which is why I tend to read a lot of reviews on films before I see them :P

Yeah, Antonia's Line, while amazing, is definitely triggering.
Other fun feminist movies: Living Out Loud, But I'm A Cheerleader, Boys on the Side

I enjoyed Juno. Another good film to check out is North Country, A fictionalized account of the first major successful sexual harassment case in the United States -- Jenson vs. Eveleth Mines, where a woman who endured a range of abuse while working as a miner.
