AGA Roll Call: Something Positive

A conversion of a sweeter nature

I still remember when I finally bubbled over with anger, feminism, and activism. It came out in a blog post in December of the 8th grade, where I condemned the use of the word 'slut', among other things. My friends and acquaintances paid attention. It generated 26 comments and began my personal revolution.

As I began writing more blogs, all frankly expressing my opinion, Julie began to talk to me. She expressed that wide-eyed disbelief of a new feminist at how gender biased the world could be. She had converted, and this, more than anything, made my political agitating worthwhile. The idea that I had made a personal difference in someone's beliefs was incredible, and it was by Julie's persuasion that Feminisme was born.

Speaking out against sexism, made me realize its good to be a woman/feminist

As I sit here and think of what really made me say “damn it feels good to be a woman and a feminist” the thing that comes to mind is a recent issue in an organization I work with.

We were/are having issues with the men in the org being sexist, so we confronted them and they said that they were not sexist and flat out denied it. They refused to listen to us so we all decided to have a “All-Grrrls” meeting for our organization where we ended up having about 8 women who I had never seen in our meeting come and tell us one of the reasons they stopped coming to our organizations meeting was due to the sexism they were feeling from the men in the org.

AGA Roll Call: Something Positive

Let's face it: being a woman and a feminist can be rough. While it isn't easy to write about the challenges and frustrations we face, we do seem more eager to jump to the pen with those things. So let's focus on a different truth: being a woman and a feminist? IT ROCKS!!!

Because the world ought to see just how much it rocks, I put this before my fellow bloggers: write an entry about an occasion where you had a FANTASTIC experience with your feminism or your womanhood! Did you attend a powerful protest? Put an authority figure's foot in their mouth? (I don't know about you, but I love that.) Have a successful debate in which you opened someone's mind? Did you just experience a miscellaneous, empowering moment in which you had to stop and tell yourself, "Wow! I love being a woman!"
