Biography: I'm a feminist because: 77 cents to the dollar isn't equal, there are only 71 women in the House and 16 in the Senate, there has never been a female president, abortion is still considered a moral issue and women in my state have to wait 24 hours before getting one and need parental consent if they are under the age of 18, 60% of voters don't know about emergency contraception, pharmacist can deny women birth control based on their "moral" judgement, a woman is sexually assaulted every 2 and a half minutes in this country, only one state (California) offers parents paid maternity leave....etc.
My sheroes: My sister, Frida Kohol, Georgia O'Keefe, My aunts, my high school art teacher, my high school US history professor, the women of Bikini Kill, Yoko Uno, Lucid Nation, Guerilla Girls and a million other women who have inspired me in life or through they're works.
Personal goals: Are constantly changing. My first would be to raise my child to have confedence in herself and love who see is...and be the best parent I can be for her. To me that includes finishing my education (currently I want to get a degree in ultrasound technology) and being able to provide my family with secruity. In the shorter term I want to start an organic garden in my backyard, start taking college courses again, find a job and start painting/playing music again. Its a constant struggle for me to balance my life between the responsbilities of parenthood, my own wants and needs and the wants and needs of my partner. Its alot for a 19 year old to take on! But I'm doing it and I can only hope I get better at this.
Bragging Rights: Having a healthy and happy baby. Getting through a semester of college and getting lots of college credits in high school. I only need to take 3 more courses before I am done with the basic requirements and I can start taking electives for my major.
